Why you need to add straight leg jeans to your wardrobe

I've always found shopping for jeans extremely difficult and I'm sure I am not the only one! But, I have finally found a style of jeans that I am super comfortable in, and that I feel fit me and my style to a tea.

Up until the past year, you wouldn't have seen me dead in any jeans that weren't extra high waisted, super stretchy and very skinny, but your girl has massively branched out. Now, wearing anything remotely similar to the Topshop Joni jeans is out of my comfort zone and straight leg jeans are at the heart of it. Don't panic though, I definitely have not abandoned the high waisted style - I don't think I ever could!

The reason I finally broke away from the Topshop Joni jeans will probably not surprise any of you who have ever owned a pair yourself - the thinning of the material. I think over the years I have purchased 5 pairs of black Joni jeans and every single time they had to be replaced was because the fabric had thinned on the inner thigh, and the colour had massively faded. I know that this is quite a common problem with the Joni jeans, and in my bid to be a bit more sustainable with my fashion choices I decided to find a new style of jean that would last me a lot longer. Around this time my body shape had also changed, so I wasn't fancying a jean that was super tight, but still wanted something high waisted that would suck in my tum - this is where my love for the Topshop Straight Leg jeans came about.

Straight leg jeans which are high waisted work wonders for curvier figures like mine. They hug the thighs and butt perfectly and are baggier from the knee down but still with a nice structure. I also think that they look gorgeous on slimmer and more petite figures, especially to create a more edgy look.

If you're used to wearing jeans with a lot of elastane you will probably find high rise straight leg jeans a little uncomfortable to start with, but honestly they give so much over time so bare with the uncomfortable first few wears. Despite their lack of elastane, they do work great as "dinner" trousers, and by that I mean that there is enough room for a pizza-baby, and they do actually work well at hiding a bloat.

They're also such a versatile style. For a casual look, a plain white t-shirt tucked into a light-wash pair and finished off with some chunky white trainers, or opt for a black pair with a puffed sleeve crop top (like this ASOS one*) and a chunky belt for an on-trend night-out look. My heart is set on the Topshop ones, but New Look have some great options which are more affordable.

In my wardrobe I have a dark blue pair, a light blue wash and a black pair. As much as I want to get some more colours, I feel that I have all the jeans I could ever need, aside from an off-white pair which I am eyeing up. Saying that, if anyone wants to buy me a pair of blue Re/done jeans I most definitely won't complain.

Straight leg jeans have been popular for quite a few seasons now and I have a feeling they'll be sticking around for a little while longer. I've popped my favourites and some top picks below!
