The Best Places To Shop For Gym Wear

We don't all want the same thing when it comes to gym wear. Some of us prefer things so high waisted there's only 2cm of skin on show between your leggings and your bra, whereas some prefer a traditional low rise (who are you?! How do you cope without your bum crack coming out after every burpee - please enlighten me?!). Let me outline my gym wear preferences with you, and if you have the same preferences, then you'll probably agree that these are some of the best places to shop for your gym wear.

When shopping for my leggings, I prefer a super high waisted fit with a chunky waistband that will hold my pooch in and keep the leggings up (there's nothing worse than constantly pulling up your leggings during a workout). They are pretty much my only necessities when it comes to the bottom half - oh, and of course that they are squat proof, but who doesn't have that as a requirement?! I'm pretty easy going when it comes to sports bras but they must have padding. So, if you're a high waisted gym leggings girl who's not too fussy when it comes to the top half, then this post is for you...

Fabletics * gifted

Fabletics

Good for: staying up, wide variety, high quality, long lasting, affordable

I will disclose, before I go on any further, that I do work with Fabletics on a monthly basis over on my Instagram, so a lot of my outfits from there have been gifted, but I have also made a fair few purchases from them myself too. Fabletics works on a membership basis, whereby you pay monthly and get to choose a new outfit each month. If you don't want a new outfit one month, you can skip the month and of course save the money. If you're a first time customer, they actually do an offer of 2 leggings for £24 when you register to their VIP membership. I know lots of my friends have registered and then cancelled once they've received their two pairs of leggings as they know that they won't be ordering a new outfit each month.

Fabletics Mila Powerhold Leggings & Mila Bra* Gifted

My absolute favourites are the leggings made with Fabletics signature PowerHold fabric. This is a really soft material, but leggings made with this fabric have a thick waistband which, as the name suggests, really does hold in your wobbly bits thanks to its high compression. There is quite a large number of leggings made with PowerHold, I have a plain pair of PowerHold leggings in black which are probably my most worn leggings now. My other favourites made with the PowerHold fabric are the the Mila leggings, which have pockets big enough for an iPhone on both leg, as well as gorgeous mesh detailing down the side.  They do so many different styles of both leggings and bras, and they even have a quiz so they can filter down the outfits or stand alone pieces to ones that are suitable for you and what you want.

When it comes to their sports bras, the Mila style is a great medium impact option which even has a pocket in the back (all for hidden pockets), and it has removable pads!

Gymshark

Good for: giving you a bum, Insta friendly, compressing the jiggle, variety, student discount

If you follow me on Twitter you'll probably know that I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Gymshark. Their pieces are of course beautiful and make your booty look incredible, but I have had  a couple of pairs of their leggings that have ripped in the same place - along the crotch seam, after around 2 years. Saying that though, I do have over 10 pairs of Gymshark leggings which are still in perfect condition so I had to include them in this roundup.

My favourite out of all their styles are the Seamless leggings. They are always introducing new colours and patterns, but if you're wanting to make your first purchase I would recommend opting for a pair of the Seamless leggings in Black*. They are thick and have a compressing waistband which makes them very flattering, and black is always a great colour choice as it never shows sweat and equally looks great with a jumper for a casual look. The matching bras to the Seamless Leggings are medium-support, and again have removable pads if padding is not your thing.

My old OG Gymshark Seamless leggings
You can't fault Gymshark when it comes to variety, they have everything from shorts, joggers, leggings, crop tops, jumpers, and 6 different collections (at the time of writing this post). Even my Mum, who's in her 50's, is a fan of Gymshark!

If you think they are a little too pricey for what you are looking for right now - leggings are around £45, sports bras are around £30 - then sign up to their mailing list and keep an eye out for their sales. Generally they do one for Black Friday and one other one throughout the year where you can nab up to 50% off pieces. Don't fancy waiting? Check out my next recommendation...

AYBL

Good for: Insta friendly, affordable, student discount

On a lower price point than Gymshark, but still offering good quality Seamless leggings is AYBL. It was one of those brands I was constantly seeing in my Instagram ads, and I was on the hunt for some Navy Seamless leggings anyway so I risked it and placed an order with them. The leggings are thinner than you will find with Gymshark, don't get me wrong, but they are thick enough to wear on days when you're not doing squats or deadlifts. For the price point, they are most definitely worth it, and great for grabbing a good Instagram in - if that's your thing!

The waistband on their leggings is not as compressing as with some other brands, but they do look really pretty and I've had mine for a good year or so and they aren't showing any major signs of wear. One thing to bare in mind however is that they are a little baggy on the ankles, so look better when you add a roll or two at the bottom. Both the leggings and bras are well made, and their seamless leggings have a great leg and booty contour which is super flattering. Their sports bras definitely aren't made for running however, as they are more low to medium impact.

You can get a full set from AYBL for around £45, and they also do 10% student discount so you can save some extra pennies. At the moment, I am lusting after their new gorgeous lemon-yellow cycling shorts and sports bra, just look at them!

So there are my three top places to shop for gym wear if you don't want to break the bank! Not all of these are seen as sustainable brands, but do bare in mind that unfortunately most sustainable options will cost a little more, I definitely wish I could afford to shop more sustainably with my gym wear. Fabletics are introducing some pieces which are made from sustainable fabrics and recycled materials, so hopefully their range of sustainable products will steadily increase in the future.

Let me know in the comments what your favourite brands are for gym wear, I'm always on the hunt for new brands to try!
