MAC: Playland Collection Purchase

The Playland Collection was released in UK MAC stores yesterday, and I could not resist going in and taking a peek before work. Obviously taking a peek resulted in me buying something, but I limited myself to one thing!  

I was drawn to two lipsticks Toying Around and Happy Go Lucky, but chose Toying Around as I just felt I would get the most wear out of it over Summer (didn't want to be buying a higher end lipstick that I wasn't going to wear!). 

Its a beautiful bright coral colour with tones of orange, red and pink. It shall definitely be coming on holiday with me next month. One of the super pigmented lipsticks as it is an Amplified finish, but I do think it is super wearable if you pair it with the right face and eye makeup. The finish is really creamy and leaves my lips feeling moisturised which can sometimes be hard to find in brighter lipsticks. 

 

But MAC, why are you releasing all your nice limited edition collections within 2 months of each other?! The Sharon and Kelly range is out on the 10th in store but I don't think I will be able to get my hands on any of it as I need to save my money now.

GOSH Forever Eyeshadow Sticks

When I saw the word "Waterproof" under these babies I picked them up. As a hay fever sufferer it is near on impossible to wear eyeshadow without it smudging somewhere due to my eyes watering. I wasn't sure how true it was that these were waterproof but at £5.99 it was well worth the gamble.

The consistency of the eyeshadow is super creamy and pigmented and it glides on the eyes at ease. I was actually really shocked at how pigmented and true the colour was, as normally with cream eye shadows they can be a bit sheer and well....rubbish. Most cream eye shadows that I have tried just haven't worked and have creased or gone in places that I just didn't want it, and these bad boys didn't.   

 

I picked up the colours 03 Light Copper, 04 Brown, and 05 Grey. My favourite is definitely Light Copper it really reminds me of Bronze by MAC but slightly more summery. All the colours are perfect to sweep all over the lid and blended out, but I have found that 05 Grey works wonderfully as a liner as well! Super good for anyone who is new to working with eyeshadow. There are 8 colours in total I believe and I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of them.
With all the Youtube hype surrounding the By Terry Ombre Blackstar shadow pencils it will be interesting to see how these compare.

May Favourites 2014

Where the beep has May gone? I feel like it was only yesterday I was filming my April Favourites but hey ho! Unfortunately I couldn't film my Favourites this month due to revision and exams but I thought I would chuck everything into a post for you.

On the makeup front I have really been loving my Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick in the shade 08 which is a gorgeous pinky nude. I tend to go more for pink toned nudes than browns as they just suit me better. The formulation of all the Kate Moss lipsticks are just lovely, and this one in particular is so creamy to apply. Next up is the Benefit Porefessional. This is defiantly a staple piece in all beauty bloggers collections, I feel. Its just the most perfect primer and it leaves me with a super soft base for my foundation, covering up my pores. It does have a very silicone like feel to it but I weirdly love this. I tend to use it on nights out, and when I rock in at 5am my face makeup still looks good - you can't complain. Lastly on the makeup front is my MAC PaintPot in Soft Ochre. Its just a perfect cream nude base for eye shadows, and it neutralises my eyelids making the colours I apply more vivid. It prevents creasing a little and definitely makes my eyeshadow stay on way longer than it used to.

In terms of haircare there hasn't been an awful lot different this month but I will give a shoutout to my favourite shampoo and conditioner combo; The Dove Hair Therapy Intensive Repair Shampoo and the Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Conditioner. My hair is super dry and just generally gross at the moment so the intensive repair shampoo has really been making my hair look more healthy and the conditioner has made it super silky and shiny. If you have dyed your hair a lot or have super damaged hair I would really pick up the Shampoo and Conditioner especially, I really can see the difference in my hair and they're super cheap! Secondly, I have really been loving the volumised hair look this month and since I have very thin hair its a hard look to achieve. I found this VO5 Dry Texturising Spray at the back of my haircare stash and started giving it a go, just spraying it into the roots and giving it a little rub. It works a treat my friends, my hair looks so much more volumised and thick when I use this and it was only like £2!

Lastly the random bits and bobs! Theres only really two favourites I have to go in this category and the first one is a new show I have been watching called Orphan Black. Its basically a show about a woman who watches another woman commit suicide and she steals her identity, only to find there are a few shocking secrets. I don't really want to say any more because it will completely spoil the whole show for you if I do, but its hilarious, serious and gripping all at the same time. For anyone who watches it already; how brilliant is Helena please...favourite character by miles. The last random favourite is an app that I am sure you are all familiar with, Depop. If you aren't familiar with it, its basically a site where you can sell unwanted clothes/makeup/items. I have found some serious bargains on there and have also managed to clear a few unwanted items out of my wardrobe that I would never have worn again. Its all free but Depop do take a small cut out of the profit you make on any sales.

Barry M Gelly Pretty Pastels

Hallelujah! Bary M have finally released more Gelly polishes, which means that my collection has grown. I now only have 2 more to collect after picking these beautiful pastel colours.
How gorgeous are they?! They are called Huckleberry, Sugar Apple and Rose Hip. My favourite two are Sugar Apple and Rose Hip because they're just such wearable colours and are super cute. Rose Hip comes out as a slightly off white with a very pale pink tone running through it. I have a very similar MUA polish, but the Gelly formula is just my favourite so I had to buy it anyway.

The above picture shows what Rose Hip looks like on. The super pale pastel colour is probably not to everyone's taste, but I am really fond of it. Due to my skin tone I can't wear plain white nails as it just looks ridiculously like Tippex, but these pale colours allow me to still rock the nearly white look.

This is Sugar Apple. Please excuse my messy painting I only had 5 minutes to put the two coats on! I have not yet swatched or tried Huckleberry but I have no doubts it will be just as lovely as these two.

They retail for £3.99 but I believe they are on 2 for £6 in Superdrug at the moment - or at least they were when I bought them last week!

How To: Rock an Orange Lip

Orange can be a pretty hard lip colour to pull off, and it won't be everyone's first choice of Spring colours, am I right? I think that most people are intimidated because they think "orange lipstick? too bright!", but really, there are so many different ways to wear orange. We all wear red which is bright so why are we so scared of orange? I have a couple of tips to help you feel comfortable in orange.

The two oranges that I have in my collection are Rimmel - In Love With Ginger and Mac - Morange. I, like many people, do not tend to go out and buy a ton of orange lipsticks, I go more for the reds. But orange is a huge trend this Spring, so I am going to try and be more confident in wearing it. 
Lip colours like Morange are probably not the best to go for when you're trying out your first orange. Its one of the most neon coloured orange lipsticks that I have ever come across. I would however recommend In Love With Ginger for those of you who are newbies to orange, as it has a red tint to it. Its super glossy in finish which I love and it leaves your lips feeling super moisturized.   

  In terms of the more neon oranges, it is super important that you use a lip liner. These colours are super hard to get off the skin so if you get the lipstick in the wrong place, that's it. Use a lip liner to line the outside of your lips before you go in with a colour like Morange. With bold lips, the line has to be super accurate around the lip! The lip liner that I use is by GOSH. I find that these neon lip colours look slightly nicer on a darker or tanned skin tone, as on paler skin tones they can wash you completely out. I feel I am even slightly too pale to completely rock Morange, but I love it and wear it anyway. 

As you can tell from the pictures I have kept the rest of my face super natural. Its just one of those colours where you cannot make your eye makeup or cheek makeup heavy as well as wearing orange on your lips. A dash of highlighter and maybe some bronzer is more than enough on top of your base.  

My final tip would be that if any colour does spill out of the edges, use concealer on a small brush and just tidy things up. Finding the right orange for you may take some time, but be sure to experiment with the more blue toned oranges, and the more red toned oranges. Which one will suit you depends on your skin tone.
